Extreme Redesign Challenge:
Contest Rules & Regulations

Entry Process:

An Extreme Redesign entry must contain an .STL file along with a completed online submission form, including a 200-word or more description and/or a 30-second video (see details below on what should be included in the description).

What Constitutes a Good Entry:

  • The Extreme Redesign entry must demonstrate a sound mechanical design
  • The design must be realistic and achievable
  • The description should briefly describe:
    • The current product you're redesigning (or the current way something is done)
    • The weakness of the current product or situation
    • Why and how your design will improve the existing solution
  • The description is critical. You are advised to have it reviewed by someone unfamiliar with the project for additional feedback and improvement before submitting
  • Images and/or screen shots of your design are encouraged, but not required

Official Rules and Regulations:

  • One Extreme Redesign entry per student or team per category
  • Teams are limited to two people per entry
  • Each Extreme Redesign entry must include an .STL file, (we will not accept any other file type), which can be exported from most CAD software packages. For further information on how to export an .STL file, go here: http://redeyeondemand.com/CADtoSTL.aspx
  • The size of the model must be no larger than 10” x 10” x 10” (254 x 254 x 254 mm). It can be a larger design overall, but please scale down the .STL file before submitting
  • The Extreme Redesign model can be assembled from two or more parts
  • Model assemblies should be saved as individual .STL files, (instructions on how to assemble to create the final piece are helpful)
  • Any entry that could be used as a weapon, or is a replica of a weapon, will be considered ineligible for the contest
  • Any entry that does not include an .STL file, will be considered ineligible for the contest
  • All Extreme Redesign entries (including descriptions, designs, videos and/or images) submitted to Dimension will become property of Dimension and can be used by Dimension for promotional purposes (we will not use the designs in any other way)
  • Complimentary T-shirts are one-size fits all
