Design Name: Highway Wind Turbine

Description:

I have created a wind turbine system to span over highways and major roadways. The wind from cars and trucks driving under the turbines will turn the paddles and cause them to spin. Energy is created by the act of the paddles spinning and can then be used to power nearby streetlights or can be collected and stored at nearby power plants. The paddles are constructed of lightweight carbon fiber which allows them to spin easily and last a long time. All of the support beams are constructed of galvanized steel to sustain high winds and harsh weather conditions and prevent rust. The turbines are 8 feet in length and the system is designed to have one turbine directly over each lane of traffic.

This model is designed to go over a standard three lane highway but is built in pieces so the system can easily work with any sized highway or roadway. I believe that these wind turbines can be very beneficial to all of us not only by saving money but also by reducing fossil fuels, coal, and other methods of energy that are harmful to the environment. I believe that my wind turbine system could become very popular in this country as we continue searching for more cost effective and environmentally friendly sources of energy.
