Name: Light Switch Cover
CAD: FormZ
Description:
Idea
The light switch; a device we use subconsciously everyday to control electricity
in our lives. Located near entrances to homes or rooms inside, they are
the first and last contacts we make within the building. The plates that
cover these switches consist of monotonous designs that usually conform
to rigid engineered standards, often dressed with unnecessary ornamentation.
The redesigned light switch cover transforms this underutilized space
into a multivalent and useful space.
Design
The basis of the design focuses on creating a more useable space while
maintaining the requirement of a light switch cover. Most light switches
are located near doors with clear wall spaces; this creates an opportunity
to allow more functional activity in this space. By physically extending
the typical boundaries of a light switch cover, these additional functions
can be incorporated into the plate. This enhancement allows for organization
and efficiency integrated into the space while eliminating the need for
similar products. Interchangeable plates allow for variation and adaptation
for each environment allowing for expandability and ease of replacement.
