Description:

Everyone knows the three R’s of the environment: Reduce, Reuse,
and Recycle. However, I believe a fourth R should be added to
that list: Redesign. My redesign idea helps to accomplish all
of the original three R’s.

My idea is to redesign an ordinary incandescent light bulb to
triple its lifespan. My light bulb has three filaments inside
that can easily be clicked into place when one burns out.
When you screw the light bulb in, it will automatically click
into the first position; therefore activating the first of three
filaments. Then when that burns out, you simply click to the
second position (activating the second filament). You can do
this three times, therefore tripling the life of an ordinary
light bulb.

This product makes use of the first two R’s of the environment,
reduce and reuse by using the same materials more than once.
Its advantage over the new compact fluorescent bulbs is that
they contain mercury, a potentially severe recycling issue.

This is a product that every household would benefit from. It
also is very cost effective because you only have to buy one
bulb versus three.
