Extreme Redesign:
The Ultimate 3D Printing Challenge Rules & Regulations
Official Rules and Regulations:
- One Extreme Redesign entry per student or group
- Each Extreme Redesign entry must include a STL file, submission form, and up to a 200-word description OR a 30-second video
- The overall size of the Extreme Redesign model must be no larger than 8” x 8” x 8”
- The Extreme Redesign model can be assembled in any manner
- Model assemblies must be saved as individual STL files and submitted together as a ZIP file
- The Engineering Challenge is open to any student currently enrolled in a high school (secondary) and undergraduate studies at a college (post-secondary)
- The Art & Architecture Challenge is open to all students enrolled at any academic institution
- Any entry that could be used as a weapon, or is a replica of a weapon, will be considered ineligible for the contest
- Any entry that does not include a STL file or ZIP file, will be considered ineligible for the contest
- All Extreme Redesign entries submitted to Dimension will become property of Dimension and can be used by Dimension for promotional purposes.
Entry Process:
An Extreme Redesign entry must be submitted as a STL file along with a completed Submission Form, including a 200-word or less description OR a 30-second video describing the value and benefit of the Extreme Redesign part. An independent panel of judges will review all entries and the top 10 entries in each category will be printed on a Dimension 3D Printer and the models will be sent back to those students.
The student/team must submit only one part as the final entry in the Extreme Redesign competition.
Deadline:
All Extreme Redesign entries MUST be received by Dimension no later than February 1, 2009 by 5:00 PM Central Standard Time.

Extreme Redesign STL files and videos can be submitted either of the following two ways:

The top 10 models in each category will be sent out to entrants in March 2009.
Extreme Redesign Categories:
Engineering Challenge – High School
Open to any student currently enrolled at a high school or secondary school
Engineering Challenge – College
Open to any student currently pursing an undergraduate degree at any college or post-secondary institution
Art & Architecture Challenge
Open to all students
Judging Considerations:
Final entries will be judged for:
- Describing the value and benefit of your Extreme Redesign in video or written format
- Creativity
- Usefulness
- Part Integrity
- Beauty
Judging Panel:
A panel of independent judges from various industries will be the final judges for all entries
Extreme Redesign Prizes:
All entrants will receive an Extreme Redesign T-shirt
Team entrants will be limited to two participants per team entry.
High School Individual Entries:
1st Place - $2,500 scholarship
2nd Place - $1,000 scholarship
3rd Place - $1,000 scholarship
Post Secondary Individual Entries:
1st Place - $2,500 scholarship
2nd Place - $1,000 scholarship
3rd Place - $1,000 scholarship
Art & Architecture Entries:
1st Place - $2,500 scholarship
2nd Place - $1,000 scholarship
3rd Place - $1,000 scholarship
Top 10 Entries (in each category) will receive:
- Printed model of their design
- $50 Gift Card
Instructor Award:
The instructor/faculty member of the first place winning entry from each category will receive a laptop computer, courtesy of Dimension 3D Printing.
